Getting to Know Me

With all the new followers I thought what a better time for you to get to know me a little bit better. 

This is the Lisa you all know from my profile picture.  Truth be told I am rarely that well put together.  In fact my hair is longer these days so that I can ever so nicely put it in a ponytail, okay well maybe not nicely but you get the idea.  

This is my idea of a good time, well maybe a little less muskeg though.  My hubby bought me a bike a few years ago hoping to make this a fun family sport and I love it.  If only those darn trees would stay out of my way. 

I would rather give than receive, I love the way that one simple gift can change a persons entire day.  I don't like to give gifts just to give they need to be the perfect gift.  My mom can tell you this as she usually gets her mothers day gift in July when I finally find something perfect.  

I would rather have a few quality friends than hundreds of faux friends. 

I can wash laundry like nobodies business but when it comes to putting it away that is where I really lack, I go to bed hoping the laundry fairy will do it but she must be really busy these days.

I have high hopes for a really nice garden but I think it is just a pipe dream this year,  oh well maybe next year.

I cherish the time my family gets to spend with all the special people in our lives.

These boys mean the world to me, I think that if they come home this dirty they must have had a good time.

My husband and me have put an offer on a piece of land and are not so patiently waiting for the owners to finalize the subdivision so we can call it our own.  10 years ago if you asked me I would be living on an acreage I would have told you, you were crazy.  Today I can't wait to get out to where there is piece and quiet and space for my kids to run and play. 

My favorite project to date that I have done and shared on the blog is my boys playhouse.  I loved how they helped me with parts of it and how they were so excited when they seen it all done.  

So I hope you learned a little something about me that you didn't know before.

Entry To Playhouse

This playhouse just shows you that you don't need a extravagant building or a tree to build it in.  We live in town so our yards are not that big but we have a raised deck and decided to make the most of it.  1/3 of the space under the deck is dedicated to the playhouse and the rest for storage.  We found this little window a few years ago when we were first building this and my husband made the miniature size door.   I also love the fact that the kids can have their very own spot to plant their flowers so we made them a flower bed. It is our tradition that we go to the greenhouse and the kids can pick whichever plants they want to put in there.

  

At Easter time Wal-mart had all these fantastic metal buckets and mailboxes out so I picked this one up and put it in my playhouse stash.  Then I added vinyl to it to make it a little more customized.   

Bench Before & After

This bench was made to go into the playhouse by my kids grandfather for Christmas this past year.  They left it with natural wood because they were unsure of my vision at that time.

 I started by painted the edges of the bench in a dark grey color and topped it off with a white coat of paint.  Once the paint was dry I sanded off the edges to give it an antiqued look.  I finished this piece off by adding the vinyl Storage sticker to the front in a bright red.

Finished Playhouse

The Playhouse is Done!!!! 

I am so excited to share this finished project with you, like many project I do it starts with a little idea and then snowballs into something way bigger.  If my husband had it his way we would have thrown up the walls, slapped a little paint on it and called it good.  I think my vision turned out better than his.  

The Grocery Store was a complete surprise for the kids, they love to play store so I thought it would be perfect in here.

I searched high and low for food to go in the playhouse but all that I could find was a ice cream package and some fruit and veggies so I decided to make my own felt food.  These were my first attempts.  I have many more to make for the kids but I ran out of time to get it all done.  Plus I couldn't make them wait any longer to see it.

This bench was made for the kids playhouse by their Grandpa,  I store all the extra craft stuff in here.

I couldn't do a playhouse without a craft table for the kids, they love to craft just as much as I do. 

I found these cute buckets at easter time as stocked them away for this very project.  The hooks I picked up from the dollar store. The trick is to see if the stuff will actually all stay where it is supposed to go. 

I tried to make everything have a little vintage feel to it.  One of my favorite projects so far.

 I finished this late last night so this morning I got the kids up and first thing they got to do was check it out.  The looks on their faces is what makes this all worth it.  I know they are going to have so many hours of fun and create so many memories in this space. 

Project Playhouse #6

The Makings of a Grocery Store

My idea for the back of the playhouse is to make a grocery store for the kids to play with.  After doing a little bit of searching for inspiration I found this rendition from funkytime.

So I headed of to my local Rona and figured no problems I can build this.  So far I have got the general frame build and just need to add on a bottom shelf and a few other things.  Guess I better start shopping for some fun fabrics.

Project Playhouse #5

After a crazy weekend of parades and kids activities I managed to throw in a couple of hours to finish up the trim in the playhouse.  

I am so excited at how good the floors turned out.  The look on my boys faces when they seen it was sheer enjoyment.  

Project Playhouse #3

There has been alot of progress on the kids playhouse, I am so impressed with the way it has turned out so far.

A few days ago we go all the cedar up on the walls, it isn't perfect but with a slopped deck above and recycled cedar it looks pretty good.

They all did such a good job, until they heard Dad start the dirt bike and then they were on to bigger and better things.  

By the end of today I got the roof, floor and walls painted.  We are still going to put trim in to finish off the roof and the floor.  Of course the next phase of decorating is my favorite.  I will post more pictures of the progress.

Project Playhouse #2

Picking the paint color for any project is my favorite part.  The color really is what brings any project or room to live, it could make it or break it.  I am in love with these colors that we have picked for the playhouse.  It was a group decision between me and the three boys and I think it is going to look fantastic.

Project Playhouse

I am so excited about this project.  About 3 years ago we build a storage unit under our deck and left a section of it for a playhouse for the kids, since then it has been more like a storage place for their toys and they occasionally play in there.  The intention was to get it all done up and looking nice, which hasn't happened yet.  But today is the day, I have so many ideas of what I want to do with this playhouse. 

As of right now this is what it looks like.  

 We are planning on putting in six small pot lights so the kids are not hitting their heads on the light bulbs
