Bedroom Makeover Part 2 ~ DIY Picture Frame

For one of the walls in my bedroom I want to do a photo wall but didn't want to spend a ton on picture frames.  I wanted something new and colorful so I decided to use what I had to create this new frame. 

Remember these pictures I had in my room before?

I got these awhile ago from the dollar store they are just glass with the metal clips on the outside.  

 I used my favorite kind of wood, you got it 1x4's.  I used my saw to cut these at a 45 degree angle and routered out the back for the glass to fit into.  

I wanted a nice pop of color in my room so I gave it a couple coats of paint.  

I created my own matte and used the existing backing from the glass frame.

 I used nails that I hammered in on an angle to keep everything secure and added a bracket to the back. 

Viola a new picture frame that didn't cost me anything, those are my favorite kind of projects. 

On another note, as some of you are enjoying the seasonal changes of spring and the beautiful weather that comes with it here in Alberta country we are having our annual snow storm.

Yesterday as I was sitting outside of my sons Karate this was the view I had.  Keeping in mind just days before you could see the grass.

After two days of this weather and 12 inches of snow later this is what we ended up with.  Thank Goodness for 4x4 or I wouldn't be going far.

The kids loved it, so much snow they could make tunnels and have their own sledding hill right out the front door. 

Bedroom Makeover ~ Part 1

Board & Batten and A Fresh Coat of Paint

I have been working on a makeover in my bedroom for the past couple of weeks.  

If you missed my post with the before pictures here is a reminder

I love the look of Board and Batten so I started by taking off the old chair rail which of course left me with a few repairs.  I started by Painting the top with a dark Grey and then added the top trim after so I didn't have to cut into it.  It didn't look so good at this point but then when does a project half way through. 

The biggest part of doing this project was making sure the spacing was perfect.  I measured once then twice to make sure it was good.  Once that was done I used painters tape and taped lines where the boards were going to go.  Well worth the time because I would hate to do all the work and not have it look right.  

After a lot of moving furniture back and forth, nailing, dapping and painting it was finally finished.  I would have taken a picture of the other side of the room but it was a mess, lol. 

Now for the really fun part putting the rest of it together.

Bedroom Before

For awhile I have been dreaming and planning a bedroom makeover.  I have passed many ideas past my husband and have been told no a few times.  Or that I have gone to far, lol.  I figured I would let him have some say in this room as he spends time there too and he has seen it change colors many times.  We have had builders beige, Pink, orange, green and the chocolate brown and blue that it is today.  Some were hits and i'll admit it some were misses, but unless you try you just don't know.  

The time has finally come and we have come to an agreement on what would work for us.  So here are some of the before pictures, and I will apologize that they are such horrible quality.  I used my little camera and obviously it isn't so good.  Promise when I show the finished result I will use my other camera.  

 Our room is not that big I think it is 13'x 13' so not a ton of space.  We used to have a queen size bed but with three kids and half of them sleeping with us most nights we needed a king size.  We were given this bed and it is nice but feels big. 

Okay so let me explain the bedding, I bought it on ebay and it honestly looked better than when I got it.  

We have two of these night stands but I thought putting them both in the room would really make it look small.

I have always wanted to have white bedding but with the kids have not yet been brave enough to get it.  This is the time.  I love white bedding it is so clean and crisp

I still haven't decided what accent color I want to use in the room maybe teal or yellow.  

At this point my room is in a disarray but I will post with updates soon. 

Garage Entry Part 3 and a Feature

First I would like to say a big Thank You to Amy over at One Artsy Mama for featuring My Christmas Wreath. 

Second I wanted to share with you the rest of my Garage Entry Makeover.  Here it is the before with finger marks on the mirrors and all.  This space was due for a much needed change. 

I wanted to add a little dimension to the wall and brighten it up.  So using some 1x4's and some 1x2's I created these wall frames.

I wanted it to be nice and bright so it got a nice coat of primer and white paint and the walls got a face lift as well. 

Once I got it all painted I felt like it needed another band across the top to finish it off.

For the weekend I am so excited to be heading for a much needed weekend away with my husband.  I hope you all have a great weekend as well. 

Transforming a Doorway

When we first built our house we had the option of putting in an archway or french doors in our front room/ office.  At that time I was adamant on doing the archway so my husband reluctantly said okay and we put in an archway.  Five years later and life has changed as so has our families needs, and with the possibility of adopting a child we wanted to convert this room in preparation.  Needless to say I heard about how we should have done it his way right from the beginning and then he wouldn't have to do all this work.  

These pictures were taken right after we moved in, don't you just love the builders beige.   I loved how the big windows let the light in the house and let the air flow through.

My Husband hard at work, he got the drywall all torn out and was busy building the new frame.

New drywall was up and then it was my turn to finish up with the mud and sanding.  This was a big project as there was such a height difference between the new and old drywall. 

The new doors were finally hung up, aren't they pretty. 

The finished look, it took a long time to get used to them being up but I love them and it makes it a more usable space.
